Dr Ekokobe Fonkem is currently the Director of the Baylor Scott and White Health System Neuro-Oncology Program in Texas, USA and an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Texas A & M University Health Science Center. He is involved in basic, translational and clinical research on both primary and metastatic brain cancers as well as their neurological complications. He received a BS degree in biochemistry in 2002 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, followed by his medical degree in 2007 at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. He completed neurology residency training at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio in 2011 followed by a neuro-oncology fellowship at Harvard University Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Boston, Massachusetts in 2012.
He has published extensively in the area of general neurology and neurooncology. He has also lectured extensively in various universities in the USA, Asia and Africa. He is currently pursuing a year-long fellowship with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) where his focus is on cancer leadership, cancer advocacy and global oncology outreach.
Dr Fonkem is also the CEO and founder of an NGO called “Healing Beyond our Horizon” which is dedicated to providing medical care, and clean drinking water in underprivileged communities in Cameroon, West Africa.
